Manipur Viral Video Incident: The incident in Manipur has put the whole country to shame. From politicians to general public, everyone is strongly condemning this incident. PM Modi spoke of strict action on this incident of two women being paraded naked in Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah called the CM of Manipur. The Supreme Court told the government on Thursday (July 20) that if you cannot do anything, we will. Meanwhile, there was a lot of uproar over this in the monsoon session of Parliament.

1. PM Modi said before the start of the monsoon session that today when I have come among you, standing near this temple of democracy, my heart is filled with pain and anger. The incident that has come to the fore in Manipur is a shameful incident for any civilized society. How many are there who commit sins, who are they? They are in their place, but the whole country is being insulted, 140 crore countrymen are feeling ashamed. What has happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven.

2. The Prime Minister further said that I urge the Chief Ministers of the states to further strengthen the law and order in their states. Take the harshest steps especially to protect our mothers and sisters. Be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Manipur or any part of the country, maintaining law and order and respecting women should be kept above any political debate. I assure the countrymen that no culprit will be spared. The law with all its might will take one step after another.

3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on this incident. The Chief Minister of Manipur said on this matter that Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident soon after the video surfaced, the Manipur Police swung into action and made the first arrest this morning. At present, a thorough investigation is going on and we will ensure that strict action is taken against all the culprits, in which the possibility of death penalty will also be considered.

4. The Supreme Court asked the Central Government to take action on this matter. CJI DY Chandrachud said that The video that has surfaced of two women being paraded naked is really disturbing. If the government will not act, we will. Now the time has come for the government to actually step up and take action. This is absolutely unacceptable in a constitutional democracy. The court asked the Center and the Manipur government to tell what action they have taken to punish the culprits. The court has fixed the next hearing of the case on July 28.

5. This heinous incident that shook the entire country took place on May 4 in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. Whose video is now going viral. It is seen that men are parading naked helpless women, molesting them continuously and they (women) are crying and pleading with them to leave. It is alleged that gang rape has also been done with these women. The police have arrested the main accused of the incident. Whose name is Huirem Herodas Meiti (32).

6. Point to be noted is that Ethnic violence has been going on between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur for almost two months. The clashes began after a tribal solidarity march was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. At least 160 people have lost their lives in the state since then. Internet is closed in the state, thousands of houses have been burnt, a large number of people have been living in shelter homes or forests.

7. There has been a lot of uproar regarding this incident in the monsoon session of the Parliament which started on Thursday. In the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that we have made it clear that we are ready to discuss Manipur in both the Houses. Manipur is a sensitive subject. The Home Minister will reply to the discussion in detail. Let the speaker fix the date for discussion, we are ready to discuss. After the uproar continued, the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till Friday.

8. Demanding a discussion in Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that Manipur is burning, women are being raped, they are being paraded naked and the Prime Minister is sitting silent. He is giving statement outside the house. We want a detailed discussion on Manipur and PM Modi should make a statement on it in the House. We also demand the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister of Manipur and imposition of President’s Rule.

9. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that seeing the action of the House today and the attitude of the opposition in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, it becomes clear that they had come with a mind that they would not allow the proceedings of the House to continue. Despite the government making it clear that it is ready to discuss the Manipur incident, the Congress and other opposition parties stalled the proceedings of the House. This makes it clear that the opposition does not want to allow the proceedings of the House to continue.

10. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the Manipur incident and asked the state police chief to take immediate action in the matter. The Commission tweeted that the NCW Manipur condemns the incident. Taking suo motu cognizance, the Director General of Police, Manipur has been asked to take appropriate action immediately. He has described this incident as condemnable and completely inhuman.
